yEAH, BUT WHO ELSE HAD A 9/11 AND THE HURRICANES? NO ONE
that's a common argument that fox news watchers like to spout. But see the hurricane just happened a little over a month ago and in every budget since 9/11 the administration has predicted big job growth and a booming economy. None of it has happened. the only thing that has come to pass is that the already very well off have gotten trillions of dollars in tax cuts while the average citizen has seen either nothing or a pittance and in most cases has seen their local taxes rise because of the additional burdens placed on them by the feds. on top of that our education system has deteriorated to the point that it's the worst in the "civilized" world and don't even get me started on health care. GW is the biggest discretionary spender since lbj in fact he's worse than lbj. and the difference is that lbj was spending to fight poverty while bush is creating poverty - it's a reverse robin hood effect. i'm talking about discretionary spending now. and you know that this has been the first time in history that there have been tax cuts during war time. usually those that have done well are looked to for a little help while soldiers are getting shot but not in this case. there's no defending this man and his ilk. he's just plain bad.
There is a trend there with Republicans. It's not just the hurricanes and 9/11 or it wouldn't have shown with Nixon, Ford, Reagan the the first Bush. Besides, it's Republican policy to say they want lower taxes but they haven't managed to cut spending. You can't pay for stuff if you don't have money, and you don't have to be a genius to figure out that if you spend more than you bring in = deficit. Not sure how the republican party considers that a good thing. Most folks think being more in debt is bad.
Cut social security? What and replace it with welfare or just let people starve or freeze or die without medicine?
How about we accept that taxes are part of american life but we spend it on something that makes sense and quit spending money on assinine grants to every loon out there? I have no problem with defense spending. I do have problems with big business interests which seem to drive a lot of republican agendas. I don't like that profits in the millions trumps food on some poor schmo's table.
